I first heard about Gary Kellar's book, The One Thingafter I saw a video of Tai Lopez talking about how the book was his #1 recommended business book.  It's currently #12 on his Top Book Recommendations, but at the time, Tai was talking about how The One Thing was helping him put into perspective how best to get things done.

At the time I purchased my copy of The One Thing, I was managing a float center, designing websites, building relationships with my clients, while also raising a family.  I figured if I split up all my responsibilities into tiny micro goals, I could get more accomplished across a broader spectrum.  The reality is - I got more busy work done while simultaneously accomplishing nothing.

Let me explain.

"It's not that we have too little time to do all the things we need to do, it's that we feel the need to do too many things in the time we have."

The One Thing - Float Mind Approved Reads

The One Thing - Float Mind Approved Reads

When operating a float center, we often think that multitasking is the best way to get things done.  Here's why "The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results" is slowing down and focusing on "The One Thing".

First, Determine What It is You Want!

The first thing you should do if you want to begin applying The One Thing is to determine what it is you want.  For me, I wanted my float center to be profitable.  I also wanted to start a podcast, teach martial-arts classes, lose weight, build muscle and start a side-hustle.  I knew I was in trouble when I was ignoring my float clients to spend more time researching.  I figured that if I really want to see results, I had to find out what it was that I really wanted.  I really wanted to see my float center as a success in the community.

Second, Find The Critical Factor

The critical factor, in other words, is the one thing you must get done before you can move on to anything else.  This is the heart of Gary Keller's message in The One Thing.  I don't know what that is for you, but for me, it was getting an AD out to my potential clients.  If I were to begin sharing the benefits of float therapy to my community, I had to get people floating.

So I began building ads for Facebook and print ads for local businesses.

Once this was done, I began meeting various members of the community and what they did for a living.  As a float manager, building relationships with your clients should be a top priority.  The more people coming into your float center, the greater your opportunity is to provide a quality service.

You'll be surprised at how many opportunities for growth come your way once you increase your social circle.

"The ONE Thing sits at the heart of success and is the starting point for achieving extraordinary results."

Third, Finish The Job

One of the biggest reasons why it's so hard for people to finish one thing is because they start something new before finishing the original idea, resulting in a division of brain circuitry needed to accomplish any task.  Many people like to consider this as multitasking.

Have you ever tried hammering a nail while multitasking?  It's incredibly difficult and dangerous.  Finishing the job requires that you assign all available resources to the task at hand.  When you do this, you'll begin to understand the importance of The One Thing.

Finishing my ADs helped me set in a place an automated system that attracted clients to my float center.  Once this was accomplished, I realized I could move onto the next thing to help grow my business.

If you feel like you've been divided and split into many different pieces lately, pick up The One Thing by Gary Keller.
